Decomax Building Technology: EPS 3D Panels
NEW GENERATION OF GREEN BUILDING
At Decomax, we are transforming Rwanda’s construction landscape through innovative, cost-effective, and highly efficient building solutions. With our corporate headquarters based in Kigali (Kiyovu) and our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility operating out of Musanze, we are uniquely positioned to deliver premium Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) 3D panels across the country and the wider region.
The rising cost of traditional construction materials and financing challenges often place quality real estate out of reach for many. Decomax addresses this gap directly, offering an internationally proven, revolutionary alternative implemented successfully across Europe, the Americas, and Africa. On average, our EPS 3D panel system reduces overall construction costs by up to 30% and cuts project timelines down by up to 50%. For perspective, a standard three-bedroom house structure can be completed in as little as three weeks, exclusive of final finishes.
1. Core Technical Categories & System Profile
Our technology relies on modular, pre-engineered panels consisting of a rigid, flame-retardant EPS foam core sandwiched securely between two layers of high-tensile galvanized steel wire mesh. These components are structurally tied together using automated electro-static welding.
Single Panel System
Consists of a single EPS core layer wrapped in high-strength welded wire mesh. Ideal for load-bearing structural walls in single or multi-story builds (up to 6 stories) as well as non-bearing internal partitions.
Double Panel System
Features two single panels joined together with an integrated central cavity. The internal void is filled with high-strength structural concrete on-site, making it exceptional for heavy load-bearing structural applications.
Floor & Roof Panels
Specifically engineered to construct lightweight, ribbed floor slabs and insulated roofing systems, eliminating heavy dead weights and excessive structural framing materials.
2. Advanced Performance Benefits
Exceptional Weight-to-Strength Efficiency
Our panels feature an EPS core density of 15 kg/m³—dramatically lighter than standard masonry stone or concrete blocks (which range between 1,800 and 2,200 kg/m³). When finished with structural shotcrete on-site, the panel functions as a rigid composite column with equivalent load resistance to heavy masonry.
Substantial Material Savings
By significantly decreasing the structural dead weight of a building, Decomax panels drastically reduce the concrete and steel reinforcement requirements within foundations, beams, and columns.
Superior Thermal & Acoustic Insulation
The closed-cell structure of our expanded polystyrene effectively traps air, inhibiting thermal transfer. This provides continuous climate control, dropping energy costs by up to 65% during the building’s operational lifespan.
Moisture & Fire Resistance
Decomax EPS is entirely waterproof, preserving its mechanical integrity under high humidity conditions. Furthermore, our raw materials incorporate self-extinguishing, flame-retardant additives that prevent combustion.
3. Detailed Product Specifications
Our base product lines feature standard plan dimensions of 3000mm length by 1200mm width, though our Musanze factory can customize depths and dimensions to meet custom architectural drawings.
| Application | Product Thickness Options | Technical Specifications |
|---|---|---|
| Wall Panels | 60mm (Internal/Partition) 80mm (External/Load-bearing) |
Core Density: 15kg/m³ Steel Reinforcement Area: ~100mm²/m Steel Tensile Strength (fy): ≥ 600N/mm² |
| Floor & Roof Slabs | 150mm, 190mm, 230mm, 290mm | Replaces heavy hollow pots or solid slabs Bulk density ratio vs. hollow blocks is 1:30 Ideal for long spans (5.0m to 10.0m) |
4. Industrial Applications & Civil Engineering
Beyond residential and commercial housing, Decomax EPS technology provides distinct structural advantages for challenging engineering environments:
- Civil Infrastructure Fill (Geofoam): When constructing infrastructure over soft, loose, or unstable soils, heavy natural fills risk structural sinking. Decomax EPS acts as an ultra-lightweight structural void former and earthfill material, protecting sensitive underground utilities, preventing shifting, and dramatically accelerating roadbed installation times.
- Load-Bearing Support: Capable of distributing massive vehicle loads smoothly, making it highly effective for roadway base insulation, runway embankments, and bridge abutments.
5. Our Eco-Friendly Manufacturing Process
The Decomax production line utilizes high-tech, fully automated, PLC-controlled machinery carrying strict CE certifications. The entire lifecycle is geared toward green construction, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40% during the building phase.
Our Musanze manufacturing plant features a comprehensive closed-loop recycling system consisting of automated crushers, de-dusters, and mixing systems. This allows us to achieve up to 90% recycling of factory EPS scrap material, rendering our fabrication process completely zero-waste. The only manufacturing byproduct emitted into the Musanze atmosphere is clean, spent steam water.
